Our rivers and chalk streams are a hugely important characteristic of our green and blue spaces. But the repeated flooding in Long Marston is a problem. That’s why I’m working with the Environment Agency and Hertfordshire County Council to find a solution and make sure it’s implemented. I’m also putting pressure on Thames Water to invest in their River Chess operations to prevent sewage overflow, including an additional storm well. This will protect our local environment from contaminated flooding for future generations.

Flooding in Long Marston

Chapel Lane has recently been deeply under water after recent heavy rainfall. The drains are not capable of coping with even a small amount of rainfall.

Chalk Streams APPG formed

On Tuesday 15th September, in recognition that the UK is home to 85% of the world’s chalk streams, twenty-five Members of Parliament and Peers attended the inaugural meeting of an APPG with the mission to promote the interests of this precious natural resource.

Protecting the River Chess

Numerous constituents and Residents' Groups have been in touch with my office and have highlighted the overflow of sewage into the River Chess. I stand with constituents in wanting to protect out beautiful countryside.
