Inflation remains high globally due to wars in the Middle East and Ukraine, but have also been driven by the ideological choices of this Labour Government to put welfare claimants first and dramatically increase Government Spending.
Supporting a high standard of living for all in South West Hertfordshire has always been one of my top priorities. I am proud of the past Conservative Government’s great record on supporting pensioners, including our commitment to the Triple Lock Plus in our Manifesto, which would have ensured that those reliant on a State Pension are protected from inflationary pressures, and supported fully. In addition to this, I am proud that the last Conservative Government also ensured that those on fixed incomes were supported through the increase in the cost of living, with Winter Fuel Payments, Warm Home Payments, and Pensioner’s Cost of Living payments.
I am disappointed that the Labour Government has attempted to take away Winter Fuel Payments, and that changes to National Insurance Contributions have made it significantly more difficult for young people to enter the workforce. I will continue to hold the Government to account in promoting growth and bringing the cost of living down.
